Accomplishments


The Friends of the Algiers Courthouse have completed many projects:

Projects in 2010

• Repaired and painted all windows
• Replaced four clock faces and works in the tower
• Restored all exterior doors (including new hardware)
• Purchased and installed outdoor iron benches and a bike rack
• Purchased and installed interior blinds for windows
• Repaired and painted bathroom walls and installed new sink fixtures and plumbing
• Restored the south hall from office and storage space to the original hall
• Purchased new door mats and a state flag
• Continued to be a supportive host of the temporary relocation of the Hubbell Library to the Carriage House/Museum while the historic library location awaits major repairs

Previous Projects

• Held annual crawfish boil fundraisers
• Organized tours and history displays at the Courthouse
• Assisted in the formation of the Algiers Historical Society
• Raised funds to help renovate the Carriage House for use as a historical museum and public meeting space
• Paid to replace Courthouse windows after Hurricane Katrina
• Purchased furnishings for the historical museum and public meeting space
• Repaired the parking lot and driveway
• Repaired and replaced broken sidewalks around the Courthouse
• Helped to develop a tourist information center
